Q: Coming to Sansing, we see green onion parks everywhere. We have found though many green onion farmers are in Yilan, yet not many farms like Famer Green Onion Experience Farm, providing green onion pull-out and green onion pancakes DIY. What are the reasons to start the farm for experiences?<br/>A: Originally we often had friends come have fun here. They liked this place. Kids enjoyed playing with little animals and adults were delighted to pick the pears, pull out the green onions. Later on, we gradually open the farm, run the operation and plan more experiential activities related to environmental education, such as Sansing green onion tour guiding, bringing tourists to the farm and pull out the green onions. We make snarl green onion pancakes from the pulled-out green onions of the day. We’d like the tourists experience a one-day green-onion farmer life. <br/><br/>Q: Sansing green onion is the well known food in Taiwan. Could you please share Sansing green onion’s features?<br/>A: Green onions are categorized into thick type(粗蔥群) and thin type(細蔥群). Sansing green onion is the four-season green onions(四季蔥) of thin type. The white base is long and the green leaves are thick. The land in Sansing Township has the un-contaminated water from the upstream of Lanyang River and the rainfall is rich so to produce quality green onion with sufficient flavor. Due to the strict control and management, all farmers know the necessity of pesticide safety, and we also have Good Agricultural Practice(GAP) certification which is a food safety guarantee for people. <br/><br/>Q: People nowadays rarely have the opportunities in the green onion farms. Please share the tips that farmers have in growing and pulling out the green onions. <br/>A: Before sowing, it is necessary to harrow, apply fertilizers, furrow and cover straws on top the land. After planting, make sure to fertilize on a regular basis and watch out for the drainage. During harvest, hold the white base first, loosen the soil and finally use some strength to pull out the green onions. <br/><br/>Q: Can people participate in these DIY activities? Are there participant limits?<br/>A: Just make a reservation in advance. For the environment quality, each batch has a limit of 160 participants. There is no required minimum number of participants, individuals are welcome. Weekdays and weekend are open for reservations.
